Achilles Tendonitis: Diagnosis, Causes, and Treatment
The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscle to the heel bone and is essential to the gait cycle. The most common injury to this tendon is Achilles Tendonitis which is inflammation and degeneration caused by overuse. Some symptoms of Achilles tendonitis include pain, tenderness, and swelling above the heel. This type of overuse injury is common in athletes participating in sports requiring quick changes in direction such as tennis and in mid to long distance runners.
